Dear Julie - i carry the surname, as does my brother Ken, who was son of Kenneth Arnold Ophel, in turn son of Arnold Ophel - both born in South Australia.

there is a Mt Ophel (actually a small hill) in Israel. gets several mentions in religious writing.
there are a few ophel families listed in australian phone directories.
