The surname Zamora originated in Spain, in the city of the same name.
During the crusades, in the 12th Century, it became common practice among the
soldiers to add their town of origin to their Christian name. It was also
common for them, if they decided to relocate, to keep their town name as their
main name, as a matter of pride. Relocation was not as common as it is today; however, it did happen, driven by the frequent invasions and wars in Spanish territory in th 12th through 13th century.
This is a practice that was prevalent during the middle ages and continued until the 17th Century. You may want to research the on-line resources of the city of Zamora, Spain.
Good luck,
