: Bonnie,
: My mother's maiden name is Hartle. There are some Hatles that came from Drifting, PA. A small little town up in the mountains where they logged and were farmers. From there they came from Germany. I'm not to sure where at in Germany. I am still looking for more information. Please email me any information or if you want some information.

My husband's family came from Germany in the mid 1800's. In Munich, their name was spelled Haertl, but the "e" was dropped when they came to the USA. they settled in Wisconsin, and migrated south from there. They lived in the area of Beaver Dam, and some Hartl's are still in that area. The original family had twelve children - the father was Peter and the mother was Anna Schweiger Hartl.
Hope this helps.
